WILLIAMSTOWN, MA (April 10, 2010) - The Vassar College men's tennis team fell to a nationally ranked opponent for the second time this year in an 8-1 loss to ITA no. 12 ranked Williams Saturday afternoon at the Lansing Chapman Rink indoor courts. The match was closer than the score indicates as two doubles matches were decided by tie-breakers, two singles matches went three sets, and one singles match had two tie-breakers.

The no. 24 Brewers (12-2) host the Liberty League Championships this weekend April 17-18. The Ephs (2-3) next face Skidmore on the road Sunday April 11 at 12:30 p.m.

The Brewers only win of the day came at the no. 1 doubles position as the brothers Ben Guzick and Andrew Guzick defeated Nick Lebedoff and Dicken Chaplin of Williams 9-8, 9-7 in the tie-breaker.

At no. 2 doubles, Michael Mattelson and Max Willner lost 9-8 and 7-2 in the tie-breaker to Will Petrie and Bryan Chow of Williams.

Vassar's Andrew Guzick lost in three sets to Jeremy Weinberger of Williams 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 at the no. 3 spot. At no. 4, Vassar's Max evened the match with a second set win but eventually fell 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 to Will Petrie of Williams.

Mattelson took Nick Lebedoff of Williams to two tie-breakers but couldn't pull it out in the end, losing 7-6², 7-6³.
