ORLANDO, FL (March 7, 2010) - The Vassar College men's tennis team avenged consecutive 5-4 losses to Coe College in the previous two seasons with a resounding 8-1 win Sunday afternoon at Sanlando Park.
The Brewers remain unbeaten at 7-0 and will face the University of Rochester Monday March 8 at 12:00 p.m. Coe College, ranked no. 12 in the ITA Central Region, drops to 7-2 and will play the University of Rochester Tuesday March 9 at 11:00 a.m.
The Brewers took a commanding 2-1 lead behind wins at the no. 2 and no.3 doubles positions.
Josh Jasso celebrated his 21st birthday with a handful of nifty shots -including a behind-the-back pick-up volley - teaming with junior
Greg Katz to defeat Coe's Greg Janssen and Jonathan Roger 8-3 at the no. 3 spot.
“Josh and Greg set the stage with their play,” said head coach Ki Kroll, “it fired up the rest of the team.”
The Brewers adjusted well to the outdoor courts as they swept the singles for the third consecutive match. Junior
Max Willner was particularly efficient in his 6-1, 6-1 win over Coe's Scott Stegemann.
“I think that we're getting used to the different play outdoors,” said Kroll, “and the sun is what it's all about.”
