CANTON, NY (November 6, 2010) – The Vassar College women's volleyball team concluded its 2010 season with a split of its two matches at the Liberty League Tournament at St. Lawrence. In the opener, Vassar fell to Clarkson 3-0 (25-13, 25-22, 25-21) and rallied in the final match to defeat Union 3-0 (26-24, 25-18, 25-21). For her efforts in the four matches, junior
Amy Bavosa was named to the All-Tournament Team.
Vassar finished the season with an 18-15 record and a 2-2 mark at the Liberty League Tournament. The Brewers will begin the 2011 season with a strong nucleus returning as Bavosa was named First Team All-Liberty League, and sophomores
Hilary Koenigs and Chlose McGuire to the Second Team.
After dropping the first set 25-13, the Brewers held a small lead before Clarkson crawled back into the set and took a 20-17 lead. Bavosa helped bring Vassar back to within one, 23-22, but the Golden Knights closed out the set 25-22. The Brewers jumped out to a 10-7 lead in the third set. Clarkson again battled back, aided by some Vassar miscues, to set the set 11-11. Neither team could pull ahead until Clarkson went on an 8-2 run to close out the third set and the match.
McGuire had nine kills for the Brewers and Bavosa added seven. Koenigs had 26 set assists and senior
Chelsea Mottern had seven digs, as did freshman
Jessie Ditmore.
The Brewers closed out the Liberty League Tournament with a 3-0 over Union. Against Union, McGuire topped the Brewers with 19 kills. Bavosa had 10 kills with just one attack error and Ditmore had eight kills. Koenigs had 37 set assists and Mottern had 12 digs.
