POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (November 6, 2010) – The Vassar College women's swimming and diving team opened the 2010-11 season with a convincing 162-120 victory over Skidmore College on Saturday afternoon at Kresge Pool.

The Brewers ( 1-0) host Rensselaer this Saturday, November 13 at 1:00 p.m. The Thoroughbreds (0-1) host College of Saint Rose this Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

The Brewers started showed fine form as, “we had quite a few personal bests and everyone had at least one race to be happy with,” said head coach Lisl Prater-Lee.

Senior captain Samantha Jones led with an example of dominance as she won the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:04.16 seconds, the 50 free in 25.51, and the 100 yard butterfly in 1:03.37. “Sam put up quick times,” said Prater-Lee. “She went out with authority to take the early lead in every race and hold it.”

Sophomore Shannon Sara won all three events she competed in and, “is right where she needs to be in the season,” said Prater-Lee. “She is swimming her best or faster right now.” Sara won the 100 breaststroke at 1:12.20, the 200 breaststroke by 10 seconds at 2:36.27, and contributed to the 200 yard medley relay win. She finished with the fasted time in the 200 yard IM at 2:18.04.

Junior diver Christie Musket excelled on the board with a win in the 1m event with a score of 209.90. She also posted the highest score in the 3m event with a score of 216.05.

The Brewers' deep lineup paid dividends as, “we shifted our lineups and everyone stepped up and performed at a high level,” said Prater-Lee. “This gives us some flexibility as all the events were contested and we didn't leave any easy points on the table.”
