NEW PALTZ, NY (November 20, 2010) -- Battling the inevitable fatigue when a day meet follows a late night meet, the Vassar College men's swimming and diving team put together a strong effort in a 108-75 loss to SUNY New Paltz Saturday afternoon at Elting Pool.

The Brewers (0-4) next hit the water for the Liberty League Championships hosted by Union College on December 3-4. The Hawks (3-1) race in the ECAC Championships on December 3-5.

“They competed well but were still feeling the after effects of last night,” said head coach Lisl Prater-Lee. “The team got up and competed with good races from start to finish but there was not enough gas in the tank.”

The Vassar 400 yard medley relay team of senior captain Alistair Hall, freshman Kevin Lee, sophomore Nicholas Veazie, and classmate Mathue Duhaney finished second with a time of 3:57.26. Hall posted a season best backstroke split of 1:00.6 seconds and Duhaney anchored with a season best freestyle split of 50.5 seconds.

In his first ever 1000 yard freestyle event, sophomore Simon Whitelaw picked up nine points with the win in 11:23.17 seconds.

Lee finished second in the 100 yard butterfly with a season-best time of 59.39 and won first in the 100 yard breaststroke in 1:08.87.
