POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (November 12, 2010) – Although the Vassar College men's swimming and diving team fell to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute 215-67 Saturday afternoon at Kresge Pool, the Brewers held their own in many events.

The Brewers (0-2) will race Pace on the road this Friday, November 19 at 6:00 p.m. The Engineers (2-1) host Hartwick this Sunday, November 14 at 1:00 p.m.

While the roster may be short on numbers, there is no lack of talented swimmers. “We conceded some races today but overall, the team competed and performed well,” said head coach Lisl Prater-Lee.

Sophomore Mathue Duhaney had a banner day as he won the 50 yard freestyle in 22.31 seconds and the 100 yard butterfly in 55.77 seconds. Duhaney anchored the 400 medley relay team and 400 freestyle relay teams to third place finishes, posting the fastest split of the day at 50.2 seconds relay that carried the 400 freestyle relay team to third place. “He's reliable and gives us consistency in any spot,” said Prater-Lee. “It's a necessity to have swimmers who go out and compete in any event.”

Junior Max Bernard earned points for the Brewers with a third place finish in the 100 yard freestyle for an in-season best 53.84 second time. He finished fourth in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 102.05. “He's improving and applying himself in practice,” said Prater-Lee. “It shows in his races.”
