GENEVA, NY (October 9, 2010) — The Vassar College women's soccer team's unblemished 3-0 Liberty League record and six game win streak came to an end with a 4-0 loss to the No. 14 NSCAA Nationally ranked William Smith College at Cozzens Field Friday afternoon.
The Brewers (9-3-0) remain atop the Liberty League standings with a 3-1-0 league record and face Hamilton on the road, Saturday, October 9 at 2:00 p.m. The Herons improve to 8-2-2 (2-0-2 Liberty) and next host Rensselaer on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
In the 9th minute, after a cross from junior Kate Redmond on the left side, Senior Brelynn Nasypany fired the ball just inside the right post. In the 31st minute, sophomore Renee Jensen put the Herons up 2-0 with her fifth goal of the season on a rebound from a shot by Nasypany.
One minute, 55 seconds after the half, Nasypany scored her 11th goal of the season to put William Smith up by three. Redmond scored her second goal of the season in the 57th minute for the final margin.
The Brewers had a chance to score, but a header by junior
Alix Zongrone off a corner in the 68th minute went wide of the goal. With 7:30 remaining, Vassar had another close call when senior
Lauren Bell blasted a shot on goal, but William Smith first-year goalie Chelsea Dunay made a difficult save.
Nasypany accounted for all four goals with two goals and two assists to lead attack for the Herons. Scoring is nothing new for Naspyany as she is fourth all time in William Smith program history with 46 career goals, third with 25 career assists, and third with 117 points.
Junior Amanda Davis (Roxbury/Landing, N.J.) played the opening 62:28 in goal for the Herons and made three saves. Dunay only needed to make one save in final 27:32. Sophomore
Lexi Hutton played the first half in goal for the Brewers and made two saves. Sophomore
Ali Higgins came in to play the second half and also made two saves. William Smith held a 12-6 advantage in shots, and a 4-1 lead in corner kicks.
