POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (October 29, 2010) – The Vassar College women's volleyball team opened the VC Invitational on a roll with a 3-0 (25-19,25-19, 25-23) win over King's College and a gutsy 3-2 (25-18, 28-30, 22-25, 25-21,15-12) come from behind victory over NAIA opponent Daemen College on Friday evening at the Athletics and Fitness Center.
The Brewers (16-11) trade hits with Stevens at 10:00 a.m. and Fredonia at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 30. King's (6-15) plays Stevens at 12:00 p.m. and Daemon at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Daemen (11-16) faces Fredonia at 12:00 p.m. and King's in their second match.
Down 2-1 against Daemen, the Brewers fell behind early in the fourth set but gained control of the set with a 21-16 lead from an 8-2 run at 13-14 started by a pair of kills by sophomore
Chloe McGuire. The Brewers closed out the set 25-21 to tie the match at two sets apiece. Vassar sputtered at the beginning of the fifth set but took the lead at 8-7 with a block by McGuire. Offense from McGuire, junior

Jessie Ditmore sealed the match 15-12 in Vassar's favor.
With the match knotted at one set apiece, Daemen College raced out to a 14-4 lead behind a string of kills from freshman Jenn Karan. The Brewers battled back and eventually took an 18-16 lead with an 8-0 run at 10-16 thanks to the attack prowess of Bavosa and McGuire. Although the Brewers lost the set 22-25, they asserted their will and this confidence drove the comeback victory in the fourth and fifth sets.
Senior
Chelsea Mottern led Vassar's robust defensive effort with a career-high 34 digs. Senior Juliana Simon dominated the net with a career-high six blocks. Sophomore
Hilary Koenigs ran the offense with 57 assists and chipped in with 12 digs. Bavosa led the attack with 20 kills and McGuire added 14 kills.
Against King's College, the Brewers controlled the match with 25-19 wins in the first two sets. King's didn't go quietly in the third set, fighting to tie the set at 23-23. A Bavosa kill and King's error earned the final two points for the Brewers in a 25-19, 25-19, 25-23 win.
Sophomore Heather Bowman led King's with 11 kills and 14 digs. Senior Kelly Greenway tallied 22 assists and freshman Lauren Rockhold added seven kills.
McGuire led Vassar with 14 kills and two blocks. Koenigs recorded 39 assists. Mottern posted 10 digs and Bavosa added 10 kills.
