Senior Day Program
POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (October 23, 2010) – The University of Rochester put a dampener on the Vassar College field hockey Senior Day, scoring four unanswered goals to break free from a 2-2 tie en route to a 6-2 victory on Saturday afternoon in Liberty League action at Weinberg Field.
The loss drops the Brewers to 2-13, 0-6, while Rochester improves to 6-9, 2-4. Vassar will play its final home game of the season on Sunday against William Smith at 1:00 p.m. Rochester visits RPI on Sunday for a 1:00 p.m. game.
Ahead 3-2 at halftime, the Yellowjackets put the game away for good by scoring three goals in the second half, all in the last 10 minutes. Rochester's fifth and sixth goals came less than a minute apart and with three minutes left in the conest.
The Brewers jumped out ahead 1-0 when freshman forward
Cameron Felt scored the game's first goal 7:24 into the contest. Rochester's sophomore forward Shelby Hall, who tallied all three of her goals in the first half, notched her first at 11:42 and then put Rochester ahead 2-1 with her second goal at 20:42.
The Brewers fought back admirably, and junior midfielder
Maura McCarthy tallied her first goal of the season to knot the game at 2-2. At 30:18, Hall scored her third goal to push Rochester ahead for good at 3-1.
In the second half, which was largely a midfield battle until the Yellowjackets were able to break the deadlock, Rochester's junior forward Anna Dobrzynski scored twice in the final 10 minutes and junior forward Anisha Gundewar added a goal for the 6-2 victory.
