PURCHASE, NY (September 5, 2009) – The head of senior Brian Bianchetti proved a vital tool for the Vassar College men's soccer team on Saturday at Manhattanville College. Headers from Bianchetti accounted for Vassar's scoring as the Brewers picked up a 2-1 win over the Valiants.

The Brewers stand at 2-0 and will host Mt. St. Mary College on the Weinberg Turf Field on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. The Valiants fall to 1-1.

The Brewers struck twice in the first half, and managed to hold off the Valiants despite a second half goal from Manhattanville. Bianchetti's first tally came in the 33rd minute, heading in a close range shot for his first goal of the season. Sophomore Eli London picked up the assist. Bianchetti quickly followed that in similar fashion, with a short header off a pass from senior Alex Freund just over five minutes later that represented what proved to be the winning goal.

The Valiants closed the gap to one goal in the 52nd minute as Kenneil Haye headed home a pass from Adam Kent, but the Brewers clamped down and maintained their edge for the remainder of the game.

Senior keeper Jake London made eight saves in goal to pick up the win, while Jason Torres had two saves for Manhattanville.

The Brewers made the most of their opportunities, as Bianchetti's goals accounted for two of their four shots on goal. The Valiants had nine shots on goal and outshot Vassar, 16-6.
