YONKERS, NY (September 2, 2009) – In a dominant season-opening performance, the Vassar College women's soccer team breezed past Mount St. Vincent College with a 14-0 shutout on Wednesday. Paced by career highs from juniors Carolyn Demougeot with four goals, and Rachel Shea with a hat trick, the Brewers left no doubt in the win, outshooting the Dolphins 31-1.

Vassar next takes the field for its home opener on Saturday, September 5, against Elms College at 2:00 p.m. at Gordon Field.

The Brewers struck for eight goals in the first half, as Shea got things going just under ten minutes into the game after converting a cross from sophomore Jordan Crook. Less than two minutes later, junior Allison McManis found the net off a corner kick from freshman Keiko Kurita and the Brewers continued to roll from there. During one stretch in the half, the Brewers scored four goals in a span of just over ten minutes, including goals from senior Anna Robinson and Demougeot that occurred 33 seconds apart.

Vassar continued its torrid pace with six goals in the second half, including the first career goal for Kurita.

Along with Demougeot and Shea, Robinson also turned in a multi-goal game with two tallies. McManis, Kurita, Crook, sophomores Alix Zongrone and Alex Grant all added one goal apiece to round out the scoring. Demougeot, McManis, and junior Lauren Bell added two assists each, while Kurita, Crook, Zongrone, Shea, and Grant each contributed one assist.

Vassar's freshmen goalies Lexi Hutton and Ali Higgins split time in goal, though neither was called upon to make a save in the offensive-minded matchup. Dolphins goalie Michelle Miller made six saves.
