Box Score

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY (October 9, 2009) – Although the Vassar College women's soccer team struck first, two second half goals propelled Skidmore College to a comeback 2-1 victory Friday's Liberty League action at Wachenheim Field.

The Brewers drop to 5-6, 1-3 in league play and will return to action at Union College on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. The Thoroughbreds improve to 9-2-1 and 3-0 in the league and host Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.

Vassar was able to get out to an early 1-0 lead when sophomore Jordan Crook collected the rebound off senior Anna Robinson's shot and beat Skidmore keeper Meghan Sleezer at the 14:41 mark.

The Thoroughbreds fought back and tied it up at the 51:35 mark, when Abby Benton collected the cross from Jenni Hibbard, spun off the defender and beat Brewer goalie freshman Lexi Hutton for her third goal of the season.

Skidmore kept the ball in their offensive zone for most of the second half and was able to take the lead when sophomore Elena Stansky received the pass from Catherine Kapustynski catching Hutton out of position and easily putting it into the empty net with just under eight minutes left for the eventual game-winner.

The Thoroughbreds outshot Vassar 14-5. Sleezer made three saves in net for the Skidmore. Freshman Ali Higgins made three saves in the first half and Hutton made two in the second half for the Brewers.
