Field Hockey Upended By New Paltz, 3-0

NEW PALTZ (October 14, 2009) – Stepping out of Liberty League play to face crosstown rival SUNY New Paltz on Wednesday afternoon wasn't the remedy the Vassar field hockey team was hoping for, as the Brewers fell to the Hawks, 3-0, on Turf Field. 

The Brewers fall to 2-13 on the season and will return home to Weinberg Field after seven straight road games next Tuesday, October 20 with a 4:00 p.m. game against Drew University. New Paltz improves to 5-8 overall travels to Cortland for a 4:00 p.m. Friday contest. nd next faces Cortland.

New Paltz got all of its goals in the first half and all came off the stick of freshman Stacy Miller, who scored goals in the 22nd, 29th and 30th of the first half. 

Freshman Rachel Clarkin-Breslintook the loss in goal for Vassar. Junior Rachel Horwitz played the entire second half and shut the Hawks down. 

Offensive woes continued to plague the Brewers as they were unable to get only three goals on goal, all in the second half. Each were were capably saved by New Paltz backup tender Elizabeth Dini. Starting goalie Elizabeth Tong recorded the win.
