PLEASANTVILLE, NY (January 17, 2009) – With a decisive win over Pace University on Saturday, the Vassar College women's swim-dive team finds itself with its best dual record in three seasons, standing at 3-2 as it looks forward to hosting the Seven Sisters Swimming & Diving Championships next weekend. Swimming exhibitions in the final four events, the 110-84 final score is not indicative of Vassar's dominance in the meet.
“It feels great to have three wins and it gives us momentum heading into Seven Sisters,” said head coach
Lisl Prater-Lee. “Our women are starting to build confidence as they see their efforts paying off. It's great when we start to see what we're trying to do in the pool and in the program show up in the wins column. ”
Vassar will take its 3-2 record into its big weekend, hosting the Seven Sisters Championship on Saturday January 24 and Sunday January 25. The Brewers will compete against Bryn Mawr College, Mount Holyoke College, Smith College, and Wellesley College. Last year, the Brewers finished second.
The Brewers dominated from the start on Saturday, finishing first and second in the 400 Yard Medley Relay. On a day of many strong races, the 100 Yard Fly stood out, as Vassar placed first, third, and fourth. Senior
Jess Lentner (Florence, MA/Northampton) swam a season-best winning time of 1:05.34, while freshman
Felicia Hansell (Northfield, MN/Northfield) placed third (1:09.58), and classmate
Elizabeth Shand (Southbury, CT/Pomperaug Regional) swam a season-best 1:09.58 to place third.
“We had people swimming different events from the normal lineup,” explained Prater-Lee. “It was good to see where our other strengths are going into Seven Sisters, giving us an idea if we can mix up the lineup to get more points.”
