Women's Volleyball Places 7th At Bomber Invitational

ITHACA, NY (September 6, 2008) - The Vassar women's volleyball team lost its third round match playing at the Ithaca College-hosted Bomber Invitational to SUNY Oneonta, 25-18, 20-25, 19-25, 25-15, 10-15 Saturday afternoon, but rebounded nicely to win its fourth match -- the seventh place game -- against SUNY Geneseo in four games. For her play in the two-day event, junior hitter Tess Johnson (Henderson, NV/Green Valley), who is pictured at left, was named to the All-Invitational Team.

In the victory over Geneseo, which evened up Vassar's record at 2-2, Johnson led the way with 11 kills. Freshman Amy Basova (Eastport, NY/Eastport Southmanor) had nine kills and five digs.

In the early match, the Brewers lost a tough five-game match to SUNY Oneonta. Sophomore setter/hitter Chelsea Mottern (Bound Brook, NJ/Rutgers Prep) had a career performance with 19 assists, seven digs and three assists. Freshman Mary-Chris Arena (Fairport, NY/Fairport) had 13 digs.

The Brewers will play their next three matches at home, starting with a September 10 meeting with Russell Sage at Kenyon Hall at 7:00 p.m. Vassar will host a tri-match with Wesleyan and Montclair State on Saturday starting at Noon.
