Brian Bianchetti (Tustin, CA/Foothill) netted a goal with 24 seconds remaining, but it was not enough as Kevin Regan (Chevy Chase, Md.) and Keil Corey (Bristol, Vt.) scored their first goals of the season to lead the Skidmore College men's soccer team to a 2-1 win over Vassar in Liberty League action Saturday at Wachenheim Field.
The Brewers fall to 3-4 and 0-2. Vassar hosts Green Mountain College next Saturday. The Thoroughbreds improve to 5-3-2 and 1-1 in Liberty League play and host Southern Vermont on October 1. Bianchetti netted the goal, his third of the season on a scramble in the box.
After a scoreless first half, Skidmore got right to work early in the second half when Mark Roseboom (Worcester, Mass.) sent a perfect ball from the corner that Regan headed past Vassar goalie
Jake London (Albany, N.Y./Albany) at 46:36 to make it 1-0.
The Thoroughbreds dominated play after the first goal and made it 2-0 when Steve Hazarian (Township of Washington, N.J.) sent Corey in alone and his slow roller crossed the line at 59:06.
Vassar had 11 shots in the game, but only managed to send four on goal. Skidmore recorded 16 shots, 10 on goal.
Thoroughbred goalie Nick Peterson (West Hartford, Conn.) had three saves for the win. London finished with eight for the Vassar.
