ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY (September 17, 2008) – After an evenly played first half, the Vassar women's soccer team caught fire, unleashing five second-half goals en route to a 6-0 victory over Bard College on Wednesday. Six different Brewers scored in the victory.
The win improves the Brewers to 3-1-0. Vassar begins a four-game home stand, with matches against NYU on Friday at 4:00 p.m. and SUNY Purchase at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday before jumping into Liberty League play next weekend. The Raptors fall to 2-3-0.
The two teams played each other evenly in the first half, as both the Raptors and the Brewers entered halftime with five shots apiece. Vassar held the edge however, thanks to an early goal in the eighth minute by sophomore
Sarah Strange (Cypress, TX/Second Baptist School).
Allison McManis (Oakland, CA/Bishop O'Dowd) picked up the assist on the play.
The second half, however, was a completely different story, as the Brewers outshot the Raptors 14-1 and netted five goals, all unassisted. Notching goals in the second half were McManis,
Emma Kemp (Albany, CA/Albany),
Caroline Jaquiss (Little Rock, AR/Pulaski Academy),
Nola Solomon (Washington, DC/Georgetown Day), and
Anna Robinson (Toronto, ON/Havergal College). It was the first collegiate goal for freshman Jaquiss.
Senior keeper
Anne Hutchinson (Tampa, FL/Tampa Preparatory) picked up the shutout win with six saves.
