CLINTON, NY (February 9, 2008) -- Vassar's men's basketball team was defeated by Hamilton, 72-64, this afternoon in Liberty League action.
The Brewers (15-5, 5-4) are now tied for fourth place with Hobart in Liberty League standings. Vassar will play at Skidmore and Union next Friday and Saturday.
Harlee Wood '09 posted a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds for Hamilton.
Wood, who added three steals, has three double-doubles this season. Ramunas Rozgys '09 and Kyle Dumas '09 sparked a Hamilton bench that produced 40 points. Rozgys poured in a season-high 18 points and Dumas added 14 on perfect 5-for-5 shooting from the floor. The Continentals (13-6 overall, 6-3 Liberty) lead the all-time series, 15-2.
Two Vassar players reached double figures in points and rebounds.
Tyson Brazell '08 recorded 18 points and 10 rebounds. Brazell went 10-for-11 at the free throw line.
Lawrence Avitabile '08 chipped in 12 points, 10 boards, five assists and four steals.
Brian Butterworth '09 dropped in eight points.
Hamilton's Dayne Harris '11 snapped a 52-52 tie with a basket with 7:36 left in regulation. Rozgys added a lay-up 14 seconds later and the Continentals led the rest of the way. The Brewers (14-5, 5-4) climbed back to within one point at 58-57 on two free throws by Brazell with 5:18 remaining, but Hamilton scored the next seven points for a 65-57 advantage with 2:34 left. Rozgys scored five of the seven points.
The Continentals shot 48 percent from the field, including 6-for-15 from three-point range, and blocked seven shots. Vassar made 79 percent of its free throw attempts, but shot 40 percent from the floor, and was just 3 of 18 from beyond the arc.
