Volleyball Drops Opening Matches At Liberty League's

SCHENECTADY, NY (November 7, 2008) – The Vassar women's volleyball team dropped its opening two matches of the Liberty League Tournament today at competition held at Union College. The Brewers fell to Skidmore 3-0 (18-25, 18-25, 17-25) in their opening match and 3-0 (15-25, 13-25, 27-29) against St. Lawrence in the nightcap.

On Saturday, the Brewers (11-21) will face host Union at 11:00 am and conclude play against Clarkson at 1:00 pm.

In the opening round match against Skidmore, the Brewers got a strong performance from freshman Amy Bavosa (Eastportt, NY/Eastport Southmanor) who had 12 kills on 21 attempts without an error. She recorded a .571 attack percentage, her finest this season. Junior Tess Johnson (Henderson, NV/Green Valley) had nine kills and junior Sarah Potts (Bellevue, WA/Newport) had seven kills. Senior Mailynh Phan (Holbrook, NY/Sachem North) had 13 assists. Freshman Mary Chris-Arena had (Fairport, NY/Fairport) had 16 digs.

Against St. Lawrence, which won a tough five set match against Clarkson prior to meeting Vassar, Johnson had six kills, Phan added four kills as did sophomore Julianna Simon (Sandy, UT/Waterford School). Sophomore Yevgeniya Sergeyenko (Brooklyn, NY/Brooklyn Technical) had 11 assists. Two Vassar players, junior Jasmin Iskandar (San Dimas, CA/Vivan Webb) and sophomore Chelsea Mottern (Bound Brook, NJ/Rutgers Prep) had 13 digs each.
