POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (November 15, 2008) – Despite four first place finishes – three individual and one relay – from senior Emily Love (South Windsor, CT/South Windsor), and strong performances from sophomore Samantha Jones (Hanover, MA/Hanover) and freshman Caroline Shannon (Scarsdale, NY/Hackley School), the Vassar College women's swim-dive team was narrowly defeated by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) on Saturday at Kresge Pool.

The Brewers fall to 1-1, and travel to SUNY New-Paltz next Saturday. RPI improves to 2-2.

“I think they showed up ready to compete today and now we just need to figure out how to put better races together,” said head coach Lisl Prater-Lee. “We'll be strong next week against New Paltz and we'll finish [the semester] strong at the Liberty Leagues so we have a lot to look forward to.”

For the second meet in a row, Love won every race she competed in, taking home individual victories in the 200-yard freestyle (1:58.27) and 50-yard freestyle (25.27), and 200-yard backstroke (2:11.24). Love also teamed with Shannon, Jones, and Jess Lentner (Florence, MA/Northampton) to win the 400-yard medley relay in 4:11.18.

Along with her relay win, Jones took first place in the 100-yard backstroke (1:04.12) and placed second in the 100-yard butterfly (1:02.69). To her relay win, Shannon added victories in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:11.22) and 200-yard IM (2:17.26) and a second-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:32.79).

Adding lifetime bests were Amy Entwisle (Silver Spring, MD/Sidwell Friends School) in the 500-yard freestyle, Ilene Goodman (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) in the 1000-yard freestyle, Felicia Hansell (Norfield, MN/Northfield High School) in the 200-yard butterfly, and Amelia Couture (Brewton, AL/T.R. Miller) in the 1-meter diving event.
