Box Score
POTSDAM, NY (October 10, 2008) –
Anna Robinson (Toronto, ON/Havergal College) and
Sarah Strange (Cypress, TX/Second Baptist School) each recorded first-half goals as Vassar College downed the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team 2-0 in Liberty League action Friday afternoon at Clarkson Field.
Vassar improves to 8-3-0 and 3-1-0 in the league. The Brewers, who have now won four games straight, play at St. Lawrence University tomorrow. The Golden Knights drop to 3-8-2 overall and 0-4 in conference play.
Vassar started the contest in control with the Knights rarely getting the ball over midfield, but it took some time for the Brewers to get on the scoreboard despite several early shots. However, in the 12th minute,
Carolyn Demougeot (Potomac, MD/French International) gained control of the ball near the midfield sideline and played a nice pass to the middle to Robinson, who was then able to beat the defense in back for the goal, her third of the season.
After the score, Clarkson's intensity increased as they matched Vassar's physical style of play, but the Knights were unable to get any shots on goal.
The Brewers scored again late in the half after earning a corner kick.
Allison McManis (Oakland, CA/Bishop O'Dowd) hit a line drive pass from the corner straight to the head of Strange, who redirected the ball past Clarkson keeper Caitlin Titus (Dewitt, NY) for the goal.
Titus made six saves for the Knights, while
Anne Hutchinson (St. Pete Beach, FL/Tampa Preparatory) stopped two shots for the shutout for Vassar. The Brewers held a 15-7 edge in shots and a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks.
