Swimming Teams Impressive In Victory Over Pace

Meet Results

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (January 19, 2008) -- Vassar earned double home victories today versus the Pace University Setters. On the women's side the Vassar Brewers capitalized on their greater numbers and depth to outscore Pace 101-67. On the men's side, the Brewers posted a 80.5-39.5 win.

Women's Recap
Vassar had a few season best times on the day, while Jess Leng dropped :20 from her last effort in the 1000 yd free to swim a personal best 13:10.81 (2nd). Getting back into racing form after traveling abroad first semester, Jess Lentner swam a very well paced 200 yd fly (2nd, 2:30.52), as she teamed up with Charley Young (1st, 2:26.16), and Ilene Goodman (3rd, 2:36.80) to sweep the event. Also gone first semester was Allison Koenker who swam neck and neck with Pace swimmer Callie Grace through the first 100 yd of the 200 yd breaststroke but then found an extra boost of energy to take first with a 2:38.54.

Men's Recap
On the men's side the Vassar Brewers earned a decisive victory against Pace with a final score of 80.5- 39.5. Showing greater sprint speed in the 50 yd free than they did at the Trinity meet on Tuesday, Lars LaPann-Johannessen (24.95, 1st) and Jay Um (25.78, 2nd) teamed up with Alan Neuhauser (25.84, 3rd) to outscore Pace by a margine of 16-2. Using that momentum in the next event, the 200 yd IM, Jeremy Shiman (2:11.08) and Tom Liu (2:12.49) teamed up for 1st and 2nd, respectively, both season best times. Divers Aaron Lefkowitz (1-meter, 173.40 points; 3-meter, 147.15 points) and Don Pinkus (1-meter, 133.60 points) showed that their board and trampoline work is paying off as the improved scores partially indicated more technically challenging diving lists.

"We have had three meets and 8 practices in an 8-day time span and we coaches couldn't ask anymore from this team," said head coach Lisl Prater Lee. "Their enthusiasm and energy levels have been admirable. With practices they have been ready to go and have given it all that they can. This team has character and heart and it was wonderful to come away with two home victories today as a way of acknowledging that we are doing great things with this program."
