Three Second Half Goals Lead Men's Soccer Past Alfred

Box Score

ALFRED, NY (September 8, 2007) -- Sophomores Brian Bianchetti and Guthrie Raimondo, along with junior John Hootnick, each scored a goal to start the second half, leading Vassar's men's soccer team to a 3-2 victory over Alfred University Saturday afternoon.

The victory improves Vassar to 2-0 on the season. Alfred falls to 1-2-1. The Brewers will host Medgar Evers College at Prentiss Field next Thursday, September 14 at 5:00.

Vassar had plenty of opportunities to score in the first period but could not capitalize on 11 shots. The same could be said for Alfred, which fired 7 shots and were scoreless in the first.

The Brewers struck first in the second period when Brian Bianchetti headed in a well-placed corner kick from Alex Freund (56:54). Freund didn't stop there, 14 minutes later he hit Guthrie Raimondo with his second assist of the game. The Brewers final tally came in the 78th minute when John Hootnick corralled a lose ball and found the back of the net.

The Saxons answered on their very next possession as freshman defensemen Kyle Brubaker scored on a pass from freshman midfielder Takuma Kawamoto. Senior captain Adam Long also scored for the Saxons but it was not enough to make the difference.

Sophomore Jake London made four stops for the Brewers. Junior Patrick Grimmer made seven saves for Alfred.
