Men's Soccer Takes No. 14 Hobart Into 1-1 Overtime Decision

GENEVA, NY (October 6, 2007) -– Vassar's men's soccer team gave No. 14 Hobart College everything it could handle and then some, taking a 1-0 lead into halftime and battling the Statesmen for two overtime periods. The result was a hard fought 1-1 tie for the Brewers who are nowt 1-2-1 in Liberty League play and 6-3-1 overall. Hobart now stands at 8-1-2 and 2-1-2 in the Liberty League.

Vassar returns to action, after two difficult Liberty League games this past weekend against Hamilton on Friday and Hobart this afternoon, with an away game at RPI on October 13. Following a 2-2 double overtime tie against Hamilton on Saturday afternoon, RPI shares the same Liberty League record as Vassar.

The Brewers got on the board first at 21:53, when freshman forward Ben Scaglione (Elizabethtown, NY/Elizabethtown Lewis) connected on a cross in front off a feed from sophomore Alex Freund (Chicago, IL/Francis Parker).

Hobart answered just 36 seconds left in the game, when Keenan Simmons scored on a header for the Statesman to even the game at 1-1.

Vassar junior goalie Jason Cetel (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East) made 11 saves on the game. Classmate Matthew Belli (Arlington/Poughkeepsie, NY) posted a key team save in the 86th minute, stopping a wide-open shot from Hobart's Sam Wisner.
