Joe Torella joined the Vassar coaching staff in 2016 bringing 30 years of playing experience and 8 years of coaching experience to the program.
As a player, Torella played club level college volleyball at SUNY Albany where he graduated with a BS in Computer Science/Applied Mathematics. He went on to play USAV and eventually the Empire State Games where he played 2 years on the Open Team and an amazing 11 years on the Master's team, all-in-all racking up three gold medals, one silver
and six bronze.
As a coach, Torella also coaches girls juniors for a local USAV club called APEX as well as having served as the JV coach for Arlington High School for 4 years.
In Torella's first season with Vassar, he and Coach Penn earned Liberty League's Coaching Staff of the Year honors.
