POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (September 26, 2016) – The Liberty League released its weekly awards on Monday afternoon, and Vassar College student-athletes were honored in four sports for their play this past week. Furthermore, VC had three freshmen earn Liberty League Rookie of the Week in their respective sports.
Sophomore
Paige Amico earned Defensive Performer of the Week in field hockey, while freshman teammate
Cristina Lopez repeated as Rookie of the Week. The Brewer women's volleyball team had a pair of honorees as well, as
Devan Gallagher was tabbed as Performer of the Week and
Jane McLeod was named Rookie of the Week for the third straight week.

Andrea Han picked up Liberty League Rookie of the Week for the first time, and
Mattie Mrlik of the men's soccer team and
Megan Caveny from field hockey each earned Honor Roll accolades.
Amico helped VC to three more shutout wins, as she hasn't allowed a goal since Sept. 7, a span of 280 minutes. She played one half against William Paterson, making two stops in a 6-0 road win. She then made four saves in a 1-0 win over Montclair State, and followed that up with 70 more minutes of clean sheet against St. Lawrence, making five saves.
Lopez was once again superb in the midfield for Vassar, helping VC to three shutout wins. She was the only player on the team to play all 270 minutes this week, while posting a goal and an assist for the week. She has now registered a point in five of her last six games.
Caveny helped Vassar to a 3-0 week, in shutout wins over William Paterson, No. 10 Montclair State and St. Lawrence. Caveny posted at least one point in all three games, as she has currently holds an 8-game point streak for VC. On the week she posted two goals and two assists, starting with a helper at WPU Monday. She then assisted the game-winner against No. 10 MSU, and then scored twice against SLU to help Vassar win its first Liberty League road game since 2005.
Gallagher helped the Brewers to a 4-0 Liberty League weekend, chalking up averages of 3.82 kills per set along with 0.55 blocks a game, hitting .405 for the weekend. Friday at Bard, she chalked up six kills on 12 attempts, posting two aces as well. After the Bard win, she finished with nine kills on 23 attempts (.261) in a three-set win over RIT. Saturday Gallagher added 14 kills and a .370 clip against Skidmore, chalking up two assisted blocks. She finished the weekend with her best performance, hitting .545 against Union with 13 kills, assisted on three blocks as VC rolled to a 7-1 conference mark.
McLeod continued to stand out for the Brewers offensively, as she hit .464 over the four wins for VC this weekend, chalking up 4.36 kills per set along with 1.09 digs a game. McLeod posted seven kills and eight digs in two sets of play in a win over Bard Friday, and then followed that with 14 kills on 28 swings (.286) in a three-set win over RIT. Saturday, McLeod was very efficient, as she blasted 12 kills on 19 attempts against Skidmore, finishing with a .579 hitting percentage. She then helped VC to another three set win over Union, as she posted 15 kills, hitting .565 against the Dutchwomen.
Han has been great since her arrival at VC, as she chalked up a team-best 160 this weekend at the Mount Holyoke Invitational. She started the tournament with a 79 Saturday, followed up with an 81 Sunday to finish tied for 20th while pacing the Vassar contingent.
Mrlik continues to tear through his freshman campaign, assisting on the game-winner before finding the back of the net himself in Vassar's 3-0 win versus Elmira on Sept. 20. Mrlik followed that stellar performance, scoring the equalizer in Vassar's 1-1, double-overtime draw at Skidmore on Sept. 24.Mrlik has tallied a goal and an assist in three games so far this season, and has collected at least a point in six of nine games. Mrlik paces the Brewers with five goals on the year, adding four assists. The freshman's 14 total points are good for second in the Liberty League.
