POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (November 14, 2016) -- The Liberty League released its weekly award winners on Monday, and Vassar College picked up four Performers of the Week while placing another student-athlete on the Honor Roll.
The men's squash team posted two wins this past weekend, and senior
Richard Bryenton was named as the Performer of the Week while Viraj Nadkami earned Rookie of the Week honors. Senior
Julia Cunningham was tabbed as Women's Swimming & Diving Performer, and freshman
Adin Becker earned his fifth Liberty League Rookie of the Week honor. Senior men's swimmer
Anthony Walker picked up Honor Roll laurels as well.
Richard Bryenton came out victorious in both of his matches this weekend. The senior topped Clement Hathaway of Lafayette, 11-4, 11-8, 11-9, at the five spot, and Olivia Cheng of Swarthmore, 11-4, 11-6, 11-6 at the same position. Bryenton is now a perfect 4-0 on the young season.
Viraj Nadkarni has been phenomenal so far in his freshman campaign, sweeping this weekend's matches at the two spot. Nadkarni topped David Perron of Lafayette, 11-7, 11-4, 11-3, and Davy Qi of Swarthmore, 11-6, 11-8, 11-5. The first-year player now has three wins on the young season.
Becker finished as the top freshman in the field at the NCAA Atlantic Regional on Saturday, as he also broke his personal best after placing 49th overall with a time of 25:38.2.
Cunningham posted three wins
on Saturday against No. 15 RPI, as she rolled to wins in the 100 Fly, 200 Fly and 200 IM. Cunningham chalked up a time of 2:06.07, which was the third best time in Division III thus far this year, as she won by over 11 seconds. In the 100 Fly, she topped RPI's Shanny Lin by a second with a time of 58.27, which is the 13th best time in NCAA Division III. In the 200 IM, she swam a 2:11.43 to top Danielle Suave by nearly three seconds. She also helped VC finish second in the 400 medley relay and the 200 free relay.
Walker chalked up three wins against No. 27 RPI, earning wins in both butterfly events and the 200 IM. Walker won the 200 butterfly in a 1:58.73, and followed that up with a win in the 100 Fly with a time of 53.52. His win in the 200 IM, he just outtouched Eric Xu for first with a time of 2:02.13. He also helped VC to a second-place finish in the 400 medley relay.
