POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (October 27, 2016) – The Vassar College women's soccer team has had one of its best seasons ever this year in Liberty League action, set to host a Liberty League playoff game for the second time in program history next week.
Much of that success has come thanks to the play of sophomore
Rebecca Andrews, but the second-year striker was honored for her work in the classroom Thursday. Andrews was named to the very prestigious College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District 3 team due to her actions on and off the field.
Andrews becomes the second Brewer in as many years to earn the accolade, as standout goalkeeper
Emma Nichols was also highlighted in 2015 by the organization. Andrews sports a 4.00 in cognitive science but has also shined on the pitch as well. Andrews was voted as the 2015 Liberty League Rookie of the Year, and has continued her success this year.
The sophomore leads the Brewer squad with eight goals, which is fourth in the Liberty League coming into the weekend. Andrews has also posted two helpers on the year, and her 18 points are the fifth-most in the conference.
Andrews was one of eight players from the Liberty League that was honored on the listing of 11 players, and now will be put into a pool of all of the district winners for a chance at earning Academic All-American honors. The release of that will be on Friday, November 18
The Brewers will finish their regular season slate on Saturday at Union College at 2 p.m. in Schenectady, NY in Liberty League action.
