The Vassar Men rounded out the regular season with a loss against cross river rivals SUNY-New Paltz. It was a bitter pill to swallow as the game was certainly not a pretty affair, and the Hawks out hustled the Vassar Men. The irony was that the ill-discipline of the home team meant that in the final 10 minutes of the game they had 4 players off the field, 3 yellow carded and 1 red card, so Vassar got a to within 12 points.
Vassar College Men 32 v 44 SUNY-New Paltz Men
Cons:Â Trevor Kennish (2).
Pens: Trevor Kennish (1).
Out-muscled and out-hustled! Vassar did not commit to this game as they should have done. This was for the No. 1 seed in the Divisional playoffs, this was against a local rival and this was to keep an unbeaten record. There was a lack of self-belief and some poor tactical decisions.
Vassar had opportunities aplenty but squandered a couple in the first half and then gave up some very soft tries that saw them fall behind, 19-8. The Brewers did not ruck well and the scrum was under pressure.
The silver lining is that there is plenty of room for improvement and it was not all doom and gloom as Rob Eder and
Evan Roberts played like three-year vets.
Seamus Taylor was rock steady and the novice wings,
Bailey Piotrowski, Jonayed Ahmeb and Brian Lee made some good tackles.
Overall record: 5-1-0
Next week:Â Sunday October 23, 2016Â Bye weekend.
