Fitzgerald Wins Consolation Singles at ITAs

GENEVA, NY (September 28, 2015) – Sophomore Morgan Fitzgerald (Encinitas, CA/Cal Coast Academy) wrapped up play for the Vassar women's tennis team at the ITA Northeast Regionals with a consolation singles bracket victory Monday morning. The win caps a four-match winning streak for Fitzgerald on the weekend, and gives the Brewers some positive momentum heading into their final competition weekend of the fall.

"Our team gained a tremendous amount of experience and represented Vassar tennis extremely well," said head coach Kathy Campbell. "We're showing continued improvement, great support for teammates and composure in competition. I'm proud of each player's efforts and contributions this weekend."

After defeating opponents from Scranton, RPI and Hamilton in the preliminary consolation rounds, Fitzgerald earned her spot in the final Monday morning. She was matched up with senior Emily Walsh of Scranton, and took care of business in the pro-set format championship. Fitzgerald claimed an 8-2 win in the match to bring home some hardware in her first career appearance at the ITA Championships.

Vassar will wrap up its fall slate this weekend with a pair of dual matches against Union College and Bard College on October 3. VC will first host the Dutchwomen at Joss Courts at 10:00 am, before traveling north to facet he Raptors at 4:00 pm.
