POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (April 13, 2015) -- The Liberty League released its weekly Performers of the Week listing Monday afternoon, and Vassar College earned two Performers of the Week and two Rookies of the Week, along with two Honorable Mentions as announced by the conference.
Vassar College senior track star
Heather Ingraham (Cromwell, CT/Cromwell) posted her third Track Performer of the Week honor Monday afternoon. Ingraham continued to show that she is one of the finest women's runners in all of Division III Friday night at the Silfen Invitational Elite Portion, as she won the 800 meter run with a time of 2:11.81. Her time is the second-best time in the ECAC, and the third-best time in all of Division III in the 800 meters. She followed that up Saturday at the full Silfen Invite, helping Vassar's 4x400 meter relay finish second with a time of 4:04.04.
The Brewer women's tennis team continued their dominance of the Liberty League weekly awards, as senior
Ava Sadeghi (Glendale, CA/Campbell Hall) earned her third Singles Performer of the Week honor for the 2014-15 season, while freshman
Morgan Fitzgerald (Encinitas, CA/Cal Coast Academy) chalked up her second consecutive Rookie of the Week accolade. Sadeghi picked up Vassar's ninth Liberty League weekly award after helping the Brewers to a Seven Sisters Championship, going undefeated in three matches, failing to lose a set along the way. The senior posted a 6-2, 7-6 (3) win over Mount Holyoke, followed later in the day by a 6-3, 6-3 win over Kelli Cheung of Smith. Sadeghi rounded out the tournament by helping VC knock off No. 30 Wellesley 4-1, earning a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Carina Chen.
Fitzgerald was also a huge part of the Seven Sisters title for the Brewers as she was a doubles stalwart, earning four pairs points while teaming with sophomore
Hanna McGuire (Manhattan Beach, CA/Mira Costa) and junior
Winnie Yeates (New Orleans, LA/Isidore Newman School). Fitzgerald started the day by winning 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles against Mount Holyoke with McGuire, stepping up to No. 1 pairs to team with Yeates for a 6-0, 6-2 win over MHC. The freshman continued her doubles dominance on Sunday, as she and Yeates earned a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 1 against Bryn Mawr followed by a cool 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2 doubles with McGuire over No. 30 Wellesley College.
Vassar College freshman
Storm Sideleau (Hopkinton, MH/Kimball Union Academy) tallied her first career Women's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week honor, as she had a huge week for the Brewers helping the team to a 1-1 record in Liberty League play. Sideleau came up clutch for VC against RIT, scoring a goal with one second left in regulation to power VC to a 9-8 win. Sideleau also finished with an assist in the win. She went on to post a game-high four goals against Rochester the following day as Vassar fell 10-6. The freshman also picked up Rookie of the Week accolades back in September as a member of the Vassar field hockey team. The League honors in two different sports for Sideleau marked the first time since Zander Mrlik accomplished the feat in men's soccer (Defensive Performer) and baseball (Pitcher) back in 2012-13.
Brewer men's track standout
Taylor Vann (Coventry, CT/Coventry) earned Honor Roll after Vann won the decathlon at the Silfen Track and Field Invitational, as the junior posted a personal-best point total of 6,024. The point total is tops in the ECAC, and third-highest in all of NCAA Division III. During the 10 events, he posted personal bests in the 110 hurdles (16.02), 1500 meters (4:41), shot put (10.69 meters) and high jump (1.85 meters).
Sophomore
Nick Litsky (St. Petersburg, FL/Shorecrest Prep. School) also picked up Liberty League Honor Roll after he picked up the lone victory for Vassar in a 8-1 loss to NYU Saturday, beating junior Sidd Thangirala at No. 1 singles. Litsky won in straight sets 6-2, 6-3 to pick up his 12th victory on the year.
