POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (March 9, 2015) - Seniors Samantha Schapiro (Milford, NJ/Rutgers Preparatory School) and Ava Sadeghi (Glendale, CA/Campbell Hall) along with freshman Kate Christensen (Los Angeles, CA/Connections Academy) of the Vassar women's tennis team were named to the Liberty League Team of the Week in a release made by the conference offices this afternoon. The trio marks the 20th, 21st and 22nd selections of the 2014-15 season for Vassar, the most of any Liberty League institution.
Schapiro and Sadeghi earned their fifth selection as a doubles pair this season after defeating Zoe Valella and Yumi Karlshoei of Skidmore at No. 1 doubles when the teams competed in a dual match on March 7. The pairs played a very long first game, before Schapiro and Sadeghi pulled out the win and set the tone for an 8-1 victory. Schapiro and Sadeghi have now won 13 matches as a duo this season.
Christensen has now been named the Singles Performer of the Week for the third time this season, after beating Zoe Valella of Skidmore 7-5, 6-2 on March 7. Christensen remains undefeated in dual match play this season, and has now amassed 13 singles victories on the year. Christensen has also earned two nods as the Liberty League Rookie of the Week this season.
VC will be back in action during the team's spring break trip to Southern California next week, first facing the University of La Verne on Monday, March 16.
