POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (October 29, 2015) – Senior Emma Nichols (Lexington, MA/Lexington) of the Vassar women's soccer team was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America 2015 Academic All-District III Team today in an announcement made by the organization's offices. She is the first Vassar women's soccer player on record selected for the distinction.
Nichols, a goalkeeper from Lexington, MA, is a four-year member and two-year starter for the Vassar women's soccer team. She carries a 3.90 GPA as a neuroscience major and history minor, and will finish her career as one of the top goalies in program history.
Emma set the career shutouts record at Vassar this season, racking up her 13th career scoreless contest and seventh of the season against RPI on October 24. Her 0.77 career goals against average currently stands as a school record, while she ranks inside the top five in wins (20) and save percentage (.870).
She currently sits inside the top five in the Liberty League this season in goals against average (.972), shutouts per game (4.67), total saves (75), saves per game (5.00) and save percentage (.833). She was named both the Liberty League and ECAC Defensive Player of the Week on September 14 earlier this year.
Emma, a two-time Liberty League All-Academic team selection, is a Thompson-Bartlett Fellow for Women in Science, Mathematics and Computer Science. This past summer she worked at the University of Minnesota School of Public Health as a biostatistics intern, focusing on statistical methods in clinical trials. She has also served as a public health intern at Eastern Research Group in Lexington, Massachusetts and as an instructor at Mad Science of Greater Boston.
Nichols is one of 10 players to be named Academic All-District from the Liberty League, and will now go on the ballot for the CoSIDA Academic All-American team, which will be released on Friday, November 20.
