POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (October 29, 2015) – Senior Tom Wiechert (San Clemente, CA/San Clemente) of the Vassar men's soccer team was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America 2015 Academic All-District III team today in an announcement made by the organization's offices. Wiechert is the third Brewer player selected over the past three seasons, joining Evan Seltzer ('14) and Zach Nasipak ('15).
Wiechert, a forward from San Clemente, CA is a four-year player for the Vassar men's soccer team. He carries a 3.34 GPA as a computer science major, and will go down as one of the most prolific scorers is program history.
Wiechert has amassed 32 goals and 72 total points during his Brewer career, which ranks third and tied for third (respectively) in school history. He is a two-time All-Liberty League selection, including being named a First-Team selection after the 2013 season. He was also named a 2013 NSCAA Division III All-East Region choice, and helped Vassar secure its first ever Liberty League Title and NCAA Championship bid in 2011.
He has scored eight career game-winning goals for the Brewers, a mark that ranks tied for third all-time in school history. This season Wiechert has a team-high 17 points and seven goals, including two game-winners against No. 16 St. Lawrence and RPI.
A two-time Liberty League All-Academic honoree, Wiechert has worked as a developer at the National Kidney Registry while also holding positions as software developer at WCM Investment and CashCall Inc.
Tom is one of seven players to be named Academic All-District from the Liberty League, and will now go on the ballot for the CoSIDA Academic All-American team, which will be released on Friday November 20.
