SCHENECTADY, NY (October 24, 2015) – The Vassar men's swimming team was in action on the road Saturday afternoon, finishing fourth at the Union College Relays.
The team swam 11 contested events, and many Brewers rose to the challenge swimming in successive races throughout the meet.
"We are excited for what the men were able to put together this afternoon," said head coach Lisl Prater-Lee. "We're not a big team; we need everyone up and firing whenever they are called upon. We responded well, and have some positive things to build on moving forward."
The Brewers had a strong start with the 400 medley relay finishing third overall with a mark of 3:44.44. Chris Cerutti (58.62), Jonah Strand (1:01.79), Anthony Walker (52.62), and Greg Cristina (51.41), narrowly missed second place Union by five tenths of a second.
The next highest placing relay for the Vassar men was the 200 medley relay with its third place (1:46.50) finish. Showing his versatility, Strand offered a strong fly leg (25.49) with LaBash anchoring the freestyle leg in 23.32.
Stepping out of his comfort zone as well, freshman Lukas Harries offered a 30.43 split on the 200 breaststroke relay that enabled teammates Strand (28.94), Isaiah Hale (29.76), and Ian LaBash (30.42) to take fourth place (1:59.55). Showing multiple strong fly efforts today, Anthony Walker anchored the 200 fly relay with a 23.86 split. Along with Luke Morrison (26.27), Harries (27.29), and Walter Gabriel (27.73), the men took fourth with a mark of 1:45.15.
Another highlight for the day for Vassar was in the diving pool, as the squad's three divers combined for third place (216.25 points) in the 1-meter diving event. Clancy Green dove extremely well in his first collegiate meet, attaining a diver's milestone by breaking 100 points with his five dives.
Vassar will return to Kresge Pool on Friday, October 30 to swim a dual meet against SUNY-New Paltz at 6:00 pm.
