Three Brewers Selected to Liberty League Team of the Week

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (January 19, 2015) - Junior Caitlin Drakeley (Woodbury, CT/Nonnewaug) of the Vassar women's basketball team, along with sophomore Julia Cunningham (Yardley, PA/Peddie Sxhool) and senior Kelly Wilkinson (Oceanside, CA/Vista) of the Vassar women's swimming and diving team were named to their respective Liberty League Teams of the Week in an announcement made by the conference offices this afternoon.

Drakeley was named the Liberty's Performer of the Week helped Vassar to a 1-1 weekend, as she averaged 22.5 points on the week against William Smith and RIT. In a loss to WSC, Drakeley poured in 17 points, grabbed seven rebounds and had three steals. The next afternoon at RIT, she was 11-of-19 from the floor, scoring a game-high 28 to go with six rebounds in a 58-55 win over the Tigers. This is her second selection as the performer of the week this season.

Cunningham was outstanding in the pool for the Brewers the past week, as she earned her third selection of the season as the Liberty League's Swimmer of theWeek. She broke the Vassar school record and Mount Holyoke pool record in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:05.06 over the weekend. The career-best mark also stands as a NCAA B-Cut qualifying time, and was good for first place in the event at the Seven Sisters Championships. Cunningham also posted a NCAA B cut mark of 4:33.46 in the 400 yard individual medley at the event, and notched second place finishes in the 200 IM (2:11.39) and 100 yard butterfly (58.88). Earlier in the week, Cunningham tallied individual event victories in the 200 yard butterfly (2:07.94) and the 100 butterfly (59.03) in a tri-meet with Mount Holyoke and Trinity College on January 13.

Wilkinson was named the Liberty League's Diver of the Week after breaking both the 3-meter 11 dive and 1-meter 11 dive Vassar records at the Seven Sisters Championships. Wilkinson broke her own school record in the 1-meter 11 dive event, posting a mark of 408.80. The score topped her previous program record of 402.65 set back on October 29, 2014, and will qualify her for the NCAA Region 4 Diving Championships. She broke her second school record of the weekend Saturday, finishing with a program-best 398.70 in the 3-meter 11 dive event. Earlier in the week, Wilkinson notched victories in both the 1 meter and 3 meter dives, posting scores of 196.05 and 199.12 (respectively) in a tri meet with Mount Holyoke and Trinity College on January 13.

Freshman Jonah Strand (Woodstock, NY/Onteora Central) was named to the Honor Roll for men's swimming after finishing with two victories to help VC down Trinity College 145-125 on January 1. Strand notched a win in the 100 yard breaststroke with a career-best time of 1:02.75 and also set a new career-best in his 200 breaststroke win with a time of 2:16.45.
