Final ResultsWESTFIELD, MA (November 8, 2014) -- The Vassar College women's cross country team sent a short-handed lineup to the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships Saturday, finishing 17th as a team out of 48 schools competing.
Vassar did not start its top seven women, but still saw some impressive things from the squad. Freshman
Olivia Martin (Vienna, VA/George C. Marshall) finished 33rd out of 338 runners for the Brewers, posting a 23:31.79. Martin ran a smart, controlled race that allowed her to catch and move past runners over the entire 6k race.
Senior
Viviane Ford (Northampton, MA/Northampton) placed 57th overall, running a season-best 24:09.37, as she came on strong late in the race and looked impressive for the women Saturday. Both Martin and Ford could be really big for the Brewers during the NCAA Regionals next weekend.
The race today also was the final race in the careers of two seniors
Cara Bennet (Bethesda, MD/Walt Whitman) and
Nicole Woodworth (Mill Valley, CA/Tamalpais). Bennet posted a 25:59.42 on the day, finishing in 157th place, while Woodworth chalking up a 27:15.31 for the Brewers. Both seniors will be sorely missed for their leadership and dedication.
VC also sent
Sarah King (Dobbs Ferry, NY/Dobbs Ferry) out on the course, and King posted a time of 25:03.83, finishing 109th on the day. The Brewers will look to post their biggest day of the season next Saturday, November 15, at the NCAA Athletic Regionals. The event, hosted in Rochester, NY, will start for the women at 11 am.
