Carpenter Completes Season At NCAA Championships Saturday

Final Results

MASON, OH (November 22, 2014) -- Vassar College senior runner Cassidy Carpenter (Mountain View, CA/Mountain View) finished her Vassar College cross country career Saturday at the 2014 Division III Championships, hosted by Wilmington College at Kings Island Golf Center in Mason, Ohio.

Carpenter finished with a 23:34.7 on Saturday, as she was bogged down by traffic and a mucked up race course from freezing rain the night before. Carpenter crossed the line in 147th place Saturday afternoon, but still the experience was one she will remember for the rest of her life. "As my first experience at the national meet I think it went alright," said Carpenter. "It was such an opportunity to end an awesome senior season with a trip to nationals. Definitely not the day I hoped for, but learned a lot from being at such a big competitive meet. Looking forward to carrying the momentum from this season to track."

"Going into the meet we knew top 50 would be a great result, but we also knew it would require her to be on her A game," said head coach James McCowan. "Nationals is a tough meet, especially as an individual without the support of the team she has trained and raced with all season, and Cass wasn't quite back to 100% after a cold earlier in the week. No excuses, it just wasn't the day we were hoping for. That said, I'm very proud of Cass and her season."

Carpenter's appearance in the national meet marked the sixth time in the last seven years the Brewers have had at least one runner at the NCAA Championships. "She really put it together this year. Cass has always been an impact runner for us in November, all four years, and this year she came into the season with 12 months of great, injury-free training and coming off of a good spring season. That background really allowed her to uncover some of the greatness we know is there, and I know today has just left her hungry for track," said McCowan.

"I'm proud of what we are building here, and I'm looking forward to an excellent 2015 for Vassar track and cross country," said McCowan. Cass has more big races ahead, and so do all of her teammates. Our time is coming, we just have to go and grab it."
