Final ResultsROCHESTER, NY (November 15, 2014) – The Vassar College men's cross country team raced for the final time in 2014 Saturday morning at the Division III Atlantic Regionals, held at Genesee Valley Park over an 8k course, hosted by the University of Rochester. VC finished 21st on the afternoon as a teams out of the 41 squads that competed.
The Brewers stayed together well through the first 2000 meters, as
Philip Brown (West Simsbury, CT/Simsbury) led the contingent with a 6:39 through the opening 2k. Vassar College sat in 24
th through the first split marking, while all seven runners were within 10 seconds of each other.
Vassar College moved up two places as a team after 4000 meters, as senior
Andrew Terenzi (Malden, MA/Malden) took over the team lead by running the first half of the race in 13:32.7. Terenzi sat in 127 though the halfway point, while freshmen
Michael Scarlett (Cambridge, MA/Cambridge Rindge and Latin) and Brown were right behind, just three seconds off Terenzi.
Terenzi continued to lead his team through the 6k split, as the Brewers moved up another spot into 21
th place with the final 2000 meters to go. The pack for VC stayed together for the most part, as the top five runners were within 13 seconds of each other.
Down the stretch, Vassar was able to place five runners in the top 131 of the 288-runner field, let by Terenzi and his 27:15.3. Terenzi finished in 112
th place Saturday in his final cross country race as a Brewer, while Scarlett was 10 seconds behind him, earning 123
rd place with a time of 27:25.1.
Brown was next in for the Brewers Saturday morning, as the freshman posted a time of 27:25.2, his second-fastest time of the season. Brown was just a tenth of a second behind Scarlett, and senior
Brian Deer (Milford, MA/Mt. St. Charles Academy) was fourth among Vassar runners with a 27:29.1 for 128
th place.
Deer's time was his second-best of the season, eclipsed only by his time at the James Earley Invitational back on October 11. Freshman
Noah Trueblood (Bedminster, PA/Pennridge) was the last scoring individual for the Brewers, as he crossed the line in 27:31.0 for 131
st place. Senior
Sean Majer (Buffalo, NY/St. Joseph's Collegiate Institution) earned 151
st place Saturday in his final trek with the Brewers on the cross country course, finishing the race with a 27:54.0, while freshman
Jared Freedman (Newton, MA/Newton North) ran a 28:31.2 for 177
th place.
"They did a good job packing up, went out at the right pace, but couldn't stay on it," said head coach
James McCowan. "Good experience, we have a young team, so it was laying good foundations for things in the future."
