Women Take Third In Seven Sisters; Cunningham Snaps Own Record; Wellesley Invite Champs

    POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (January 19, 2014) – The Vassar College women's swimming and diving team finished day two of the 32nd Annual Seven Sisters Swimming and Diving Championships Sunday afternoon and finished as a team in third place.

    Wellesley College took home the trophy with a team score of 1,292.5. Mount Holyoke College followed with 792.5. Vassar had 661 with Smith College (560) and Bryn Mawr College (259) in fourth and fifth place, respectively.

    Freshman Julia Cunningham (Yardley, PA/Peddie School) broke her own 200 Yard Butterfly record. Her previous record stood at 2:06.56 but her winning time of 2:06.44 replaces it.

    The Brewers took fourth and fifth place in the day's final event, the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay. The 'A' team of Cunningham, McKenzie Quinn (Upper Montclair, NJ/Immaculate Heart), Elizabeth Balter (Mount Kisco, NY/Fox Lane) and Lily Frye (Fairport, NY/Harley School) swam a 3:50.97. The 'B' team of Milee Nelson (Champaign, IL/University Laboratory), Marie Schmidt (Homer, AK/Homer), Olivia Harries (Temple Terrace, FL/Lee Academy) and Robin Lam (Arcadia, CA/Arcadia) were in close pursuit with a 3:54.09 finish.

    Nelson finished in fourth in the 200 Yard Backstroke (2:18.59) as well. Harries took seventh in the event with a 2:20.69 as well as earning a fourth place finish in the 1,650 Yard Freestyle (18:43.67).

    Schmidt and Alison Burns (Sacramento, CA/Rio Americano) took fifth (18:54.00) and eighth (19:30.23) in the 1,650 as well.

    Alison Sagliocca (Stony Brook, NY/Ward Melville) was the top scorer for the Brewers on the 3-Meter board Sunday. She finished fifth with a score of 301.6 after 11 dives. Her best dive of the morning was her inward dive from pike position where she scored majority sixes. Maya Pruitt (New York, NY/Laguardia Music Art) finished in eighth with a score of 282.35. Her score was hurt when she over-rotated on her inward double somersault dive in the sixth round and landed parallel with the water.

    Quinn added a sixth place finish to her day with a time of 2:39.90 in the 200 Yard Breaststroke. Frye posted an eighth place (58.06) spot in the 100 Yard Free.

    The Brewers will next host the Violets of New York University on Saturday, January 25 at 1:00 pm. Quinn, Lam and Burns will be honored in pre-meet ceremonies for Senior Day as well.
