TROY, NY (May 31, 2013) – Sophomores
Ava Sadeghi and Sam Schapiro earned recognition as All-Liberty League Singles and Doubles players in an announcement made by League Commissioner, Tracy King on Friday afternoon.
As a team, Schapiro and Sadeghi opened a huge season with eight, back-to-back wins as the #3 team in the Northeast Region. They then finished their successful season, going 8-2 in their final 10 matches with wins against Nationally-Ranked schools such as Pomona-Pitzer and Skidmore College.
Schapiro finished the season with a mark of 17-6 in singles play. She was 10-4 at the #2 spot in dual matches and 7-2 in tournament action. Sadeghi highlighted the singles play for the Brewers with an outstanding 22-9 mark at No. 1 singles. She was 12-4 in dual competition and 10-5 in tournament play.
Both Sadeghi and Schapiro earned All-American status when the pair won the ITA Northeast Regional Tournament in the Fall. The duo made Vassar College history as they went on to be the first pair to win a match at the ITA National Championships in Mobile, Alabama. Sadeghi also got her second All-American honors in singles play when she successfully defended her title at the Regional Tournament.
