Guzick Earns Liberty League Player of the Year; Cooper and Cox Earn League Recognition

TROY, NY (May 31, 2013) – Senior Andrew Guzick was tabbed as the 2012-13 Liberty League Men's Tennis Player of the Year as announced by League Commissioner, Tracy King on Friday afternoon. Freshman Daniel Cooper tagged with Guzick to make All-Liberty League Doubles while head coach John Cox earned the Liberty League Coach of the Year Title.

Guzick just recently put a close on his playing career at Vassar after going three, action-packed sets with #2 seeded Adam Putterman of Washington University in St. Louis in the opening round of the NCAA Division III Singles Championships. Guzick fell, 7-6, 6-7, 6-4. Putterman went on to win the championship.

Guzick finished the season 17-11in singles action as he led the Brewers to their second straight NCAA National Championship appearance. Vassar was the only team to make the tournament with a below .500 record. Their 10-12 record (going into the NCAA's) was a correlation between their play against eight Nationally-Ranked teams and eight other Northeast Regionally-Ranked teams, making this one of  Vassar's toughest schedules in history.

As a team, Guzick and Cooper finished 11-4 in doubles action while still facing some of the top schools in the region and country.

Coach Cox was tabbed as the Wilson/ITA Coach of the Year for the Northeast Region. He joined Chuck Willenborg of Johns Hopkins University (Atlantic South), Todd Wojtkowski of Case Western Reserve University (Central) and Paul Settles of Claremont-Mudd-Scripts Colleges (West) as the Coaches of the Year. All of the other teams were known as National power-houses this past season.
