MIDDLEBURY, VT (May 11, 2013) – The 2012-13 season came to a conclusion Saturday for the Vassar College men's tennis team in a 5-1 loss to nationally ninth-ranked Johns Hopkins in the second round of the NCAA Tournament at Middlebury College's Nelson Indoor Courts. Senior tri-captain Andrew Guzick and freshman Daniel Cooper earned Vassar's lone point at #1 doubles.

Guzick and Cooper's 8-6 win over the top JHU duo of Tanner Brown and Erik Lim kept the Brewers within one point at the conclusion of the doubles matches. Brown and Lim were ranked fourth in the nation in the ITA preseason rankings released in November 2012 and were most recently ranked sixth in the Atlantic South Region. Guzick and Cooper are currently 14th in the ITA's Northeast Region.

Senior tri-captains Dan Freeman and Nick Jasso fell 8-5 to Nicholas Garcia and Noah Joachim on Court 2 while senior Josh Kessler and freshman Christian Phelps suffered an 8-3 setback against Andy Hersh and Jeff Kamei on Court 3.

With play moved indoors due to rain and only four courts available for singles, Kessler and Phelps were not able to get going in their matches while the Blue Jays claimed straight-set wins on Courts 2, 3 and 4 to sew up the 5-1 victory.

Vassar ends its season with a record of 11-13, a Liberty League championship, and its second consecutive appearance among the NCAA's Final 32. Johns Hopkins improved to 20-2 and will face either 11th-ranked regional host Middlebury or Drew tomorrow in the third round. Guzick's career as a Brewer is not yet finished, however, as he will compete in the NCAA Singles Championship later this month in Kalamazoo, Mich.
