POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (May 15, 2012) – Capping a season of successes that included a Seven Sisters Championship and a trip to the round of 16 at the NCAA Division III Championships, the Vassar College women's tennis team raked in Liberty League end-of-season awards with the Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year, two All-Liberty League Singles selections, and one All-Liberty League Doubles selection.
Senior
Jennifer Beckerman earned Liberty League Player of the Year and All-Liberty League Singles and Doubles honors. Freshman
Ava Sadeghi was named Liberty League Rookie of the Year and an All-Liberty League Singles selection. Freshman
Samantha Schapiro paired with Beckerman for All-Liberty League Doubles honors.
JENNIFER BECKERMAN, PLAYER OF THE YEAR, ALL-LIBERTY LEAGUE SINGLES UNANIMOUS SELECTION
Beckerman went undefeated in Liberty League play (6-0 singles, 7-0 doubles) and Northeast Region play (12-0 singles, 8-0 doubles). She was 15-3 (15-2 DIII) at No. 1 singles and 11-4 (11-3 DIII) in doubles with 10-4 record at No. 2 doubles. She was the No. 1 singles champion at the Seven Sisters Championship and named to the All-Tournament team. She is currently ranked #9 in singles in the Northeast Region and was twice named Liberty League Performer of the Week.
AVA SADEGHI, ROOKIE OF THE YEAR, ALL-LIBERTY LEAGUE SINGLES UNANIMOUS SELECTION
Sadeghi went 26-7 in singles with six losses coming in the fall to top-10 players. She went 16-1 at No. 2 singles and was undefeated in Liberty League singles play (7-0). She made program history as the first to win the ITA Northeast Region Singles Championship and qualify for ITA National Small College Championships. She earned ITA All-America honors and was twice named Liberty League Rookie of the Week and once Performer of the Week.
JENNIFER BECKERMAN AND SAMANTHA SCHAPIRO, ALL-LIBERTY LEAGUE DOUBLES
Pairing up in the spring, Beckerman and Schapiro went 11-3 in dual matches with a 10-3 record at the No. 2 position. The duo went undefeated in Liberty League play with an unblemished 7-0 record.
