Women's Tennis Drops In Third Round of NCAAs 5-0 To No. 10 Johns Hopkins

FREDERICKBURG, VA (May 13, 2012) -- Advancing to the third round of the NCAA Division III Championships for the first time since 2003, the Vassar College women's tennis team's run ended with a 5-0 loss to No. 10 Johns Hopkins University on Sunday at Battleground Athletic Complex.

The No. 24 Brewers finish the season with a 16-6 record. Hopkins (18-5) will face No. 2 University of Chicago in the quarterfinals on May 21.

Hopkins swept doubles and picked up a pair up singles points to clinch the win, leaving several close matches unfinished. Abby Clark blanked Vassar's Jennifer Ruther 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 and Hailey Hogan clinched it with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Jennifer Beckerman at the No. 1 spot.

At the time of decision, Vassar's Ava Sadeghi and Samantha Schapiro held one-set leads, winning first set tiebreakers at No. 2 and No. 4, respectively. Joy Backer split sets with a 6-4 win in the first and a 6-2 loss in the second.
