WEEKEND PREVIEW: Basketball League Games and Swim-Dive Senior Day

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (January 26, 2011) – With eight Vassar College Athletics programs in action this weekend, there are several premium home events to choose from as men's and women's basketball host Liberty League homestands and men's and women's swimming and diving celebrate Senior Day.

For those away from campus, Vassar Athletics will offer its first-ever free live streaming video of Friday's men's and women's basketball games against St. Lawrence, brought to you by Total Webcasting.

FALL ATHLETE CEREMONY

Vassar Athletics will honor its All-Liberty League selections and NCAA qualifiers from the fall on Friday at the men's and women's basketball games at the Athletics and Fitness Center (AFC). At halftime of the women's game beginning at 6:00 p.m., the ceremony will honor athletes from men's and women's cross country, men's and women's tennis, women's volleyball, women's soccer, field hockey, and men's and women's rugby. At halftime of the men's game, the ceremony will honor the men's soccer team, 2011 Liberty League Champions and NCAA-Qualifier.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

The sixth-place Brewers (9-6, 3-3 Liberty) host first-place St. Lawrence University (12-4, 8-0) on Friday, January 27, at 6:00 p.m. and eighth-place Clarkson University (6-8, 1-5) on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in crucial Liberty League contests at the AFC. On Monday, sophomore Cydni Matsuoka was named Liberty League Performer of the Week for the fourth time this season.

MEN'S BASKETBALL

The seventh-place Brewers (6-9, 2-4 Liberty) host the fourth place St. Lawrence (8-8, 4-4 Liberty) on Friday at 8:00 p.m. and third-place Clarkson (11-4, 5-2 Liberty) on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. at the AFC. On Tuesday, senior captain Ethan Shanley dropped a career-high 31 points in a 104-91 loss to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

SWIMMING AND DIVING

The men's (2-4) and women's (2-3) swimming and diving teams celebrate Senior Day this Saturday against NYU at 1:00 p.m. at Kresge Pool. The Brewers honor seniors Amelia Couture, Felicia Hansell, Christie Musket, Caroline Shannon, Max Bernard, Ian Madison, Jack Smart, and Greg Sullivan. On Monday, Shannon was named Liberty League Swimmer of the Week for the third time this season.

FENCING

Men's (12-7) and women's fencing (12-11) head to Chestnut Hill, MA on Saturday for Northeast Conference bouts against host Boston College at 10:00 a.m., Massachusetts Institute of Technology at 11:00 a.m., Tufts University at 12:00 p.m., Smith College at 1:00 p.m., Brandeis University at 2:00 p.m., and Brown University at 3:00 p.m.

SQUASH

The women (4-5) are looking to rebound from recent losses to Colby College and Franklin & Marshall College at the Pioneer Valley Open, when they return to action at Smith College against William Smith College at 11:00 a.m., Wellesley at 12:30 p.m., and Smith College at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday. Coming off losses to Colby and Hobart, the men (4-10) look to get back on track this Sunday against Denison at 12:30 p.m., Boston College at 2:00 p.m. and Northeastern at 3:30 p.m. at the Boston Round Robin.
