POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (May 27, 2010) -- Complementing a unanimous selection to the Liberty League First Team, Vassar College men's lacrosse junior defender
Zach Beauchamp was named to the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Upstate Second Team.
Beauchamp was one of seven Liberty League players selected as ECAC All-Stars, and one of four Second Team members.
The most talented player for Vassar since his freshman year and the program's best player, Beauchamp was a Liberty League First Team selection this season, named to the Second Team as a sophomore and Honorable Mention as a freshman. This is his first career ECAC honor. The anchor of the defense, Beauchamp covered opponents' top attackman, sometimes moving to a longstick midfielder. He led the league in ground balls for all games (112, 8.0 per game) as well as league only play (49, 8.17 per game). Beauchamp also led the team in caused turnovers (45) and was the main reason for Vassar's success in that category (1st overall, tied for 2nd in league only play). He had one goal and one assist during the season. A versatile player, Beauchamp played wing on face-offs as well as taking draws. He was 23 of 50 (.460) on face-offs and even when opponents did win the face-off Beauchamp often caused a turnover and got the ensuing ground ball.
