Women's Soccer Announces 2010 Recruiting Class

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (May 30, 2010) – Seven highly decorated women's soccer recruits will join the Vassar women's soccer program this fall, all of whom were accepted early decision. Six recruits hail from five different states and one recruit is from Holland.

2010 Recruiting Class: Olivia Hunter (Oak Hill, Virginia), Gavriella Kaplan (Robbinsville, New Jersey), Kylie Ladenburger (Thunder Ridge, Colorado), Carrie Perkins (Hague, Holland), Rebecca Pearce-Probst (Cambridge, Massachusetts), Sheeva Seyfi (Laguna Hills, California) and Claire Skrabutenas (Palo Alto, California)

“This is a very exciting time for the Vassar women's soccer program,” said head coach Richard Moller. “We just finished our most successful back to back Liberty League seasons in one of the strongest conferences in the country. Additionally, we accomplished this with a starting line up mainly composed of underclassmen. This will be my fourth recruiting class at Vassar, completing my first recruiting cycle. Looking at our roster for this fall we will have talent from top to bottom, depth and experience creating a great balance.”

A closer look at the recruits:

Olivia Hunter (Oak Hill, Virginia, Oakton High School) – Varsity starter since her freshman year, leading goal scorer her freshman year, eight seasons of WAGS Division 1 soccer, VA State Finalist U18 with Vista Hot Shots, VA State Semi Finalist U16 Vista Shockwave, winner of US Regional Cup U16 Vista Shockwave.

Olivia chose Vassar over Villanova and Colgate.

Moller: “Olivia is a very versatile player. She was a leading goal scorer her freshman year, played midfield and defense. To be able to plug in a player of her talent anywhere on the field is very unique.”

Gavriella Kaplan (Robinsville, New Jersey, Robinsville High School) – Patriot Division Champion, leading goal scorer, All-State junior and senior year, All County junior & senior year, varsity captain senior year, State Champion 2008 & 2009, National Honor Society President.

Gavriella picked Vassar over Carnegie Mellon University, Washington University in St. Louis and Northwestern University.

Moller: “Gavriella caught my eye instantly with her ability to score goals. Some goals were scored because she has a great nose to be at the right spot and other goals were scored because of tremendous individual skills.”

Kylie Ladenburger (Thunder Ridge, Colorado, Thunder Ridge High School) – Rookie of The Year as a freshman, Honorable Mention All-State as a sophomore, Second Team All-State as a junior and First Team All-State as a senior, All-State All-American Award winner junior and senior year, played for Top 10 nationally ranked club program Real Colorado, won State two years ago and Regional semi-finalist and state finals last year, Kylie has ODP experience as well.

Kylie picked Vassar over Dartmouth and Carnegie-Mellon.

Moller: “Kylie is a superb talent and can play a forward and midfield position. She will not play like a typical freshman this fall and she will be a handful against any team we will play this fall.”

Carrie Perkins (Hague, Holland, American School of the Hague) – Hague School Co-captain 2009, All Tournament Player Award at Division 1 International Schools Sports Tournament (ISST's) 2008 and 2009, 110% Award 2009, Cathy Faero Award ISST's 2007, Most Improved Player Award 2007, Team Silver Medalist ISST's 2008 and 2009, Team Bronze Medalist ISST's 2007, Played on ABF club team grades 11 and 12 and was co-captain, Team Gold Medalist 2009 in KNVB league, currently member of the UVS Leiden club.

Carrie picked Vassar over Bates College and Drew University.

Moller: “Carrie making the First Team at the UVS Leiden club is very impressive. They have three women's teams and to make the First Team while being the youngest player shows her maturity on the field. Most of her teammates are 21-25 years old. Her club plays in the second tier of the KNVB league. Carrie is plainly put a very hard-working and smart player. You can never have enough players with her attitude.”

Rebecca Pearce-Probst (Cambridge, Massachusetts, Milton Academy) – Starter for the Milton Academy, co-captain of Boston Blast for two years, co-director of the Milton Academy Athletic Council.

Rebecca chose Vassar over Brandeis University, Wesleyan University and Carleton College.

Moller: “Rebecca is a very smart defender with strong ball skills. She is a team player, well respected and has a first rate work ethic. “

Sheeva Seyfi (Laguna Hills, California, Laguna Hills High School) – Sophomore year received offensive MVP, Pacific Coast League offensive MVP, LA Region Second Team CIF, leading goal scorer in league, league champions, starter since freshmen year, junior year 2nd Team All League, co-captain senior year, offensive MVP, 1st Team All League, 2nd Team CIF, played for Top 5 nationally ranked club program So Cal Blues, won State Championships back to back with So Cal Blues 2007 & 2008, Regional finalists in 2008.

Sheeva picked Vassar over Tufts, Carnegie-Mellon, American University and numerous other DI programs.

Moller: “Sheeva was heavily recruited on all levels and to bring in a offensive player of her caliber is very thrilling. Her dribbling skills, passing skills and most of all, scoring abilities will be a major addition to our squad. I am very happy she is on my team for the next four years and I do not have to play against her.”

Claire Skrabutenas (Palo Alto, California, Palo Alto High School) –First Team All-League junior and senior year (Santa Clara Valle Athletic League), member of the Alpine FC Ruckus, member of the '07 Northern California District 2 ODP Team, member of the California Scholastic Federation for all 4 years of high school.
