Nicole Pontee, Senior, Women's Tennis Performer of the Week
Pontee was undefeated at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles as she led Vassar to its eighth straight Liberty League title and earned her second consecutive Most Outstanding Performer of the tournament honor. In the title match against Skidmore, which the Brewers won, 6-3, Pontee defeated Danika Robison, 6-4,6-3, and then teamed with sophomore partner
Joy Backer for an 8-4 win over Robison/Nataly Mendoza. In Vassar's 8-1 win over St. Lawrence in the semifinals, Pontee had her closest win of the weekend, defeating Stephanie Finn, 3-6, 6-4, (10-3) and Pontee and Backer picked up another 8-4 win over Finn/Casey Gilman. Pontee has now been honored by the league 10 times.
Johanna Spangler, Sophomore, Women's Track Performer of the Week
Spangler set an NCAA Division III Championship provisional qualifying mark with a 36:24.27 time in the 10,000m Championship at the University of Pennsylvania Penn Relays Distance Carnival. Her record performance betters the provisional NCAA time of 37:30, and makes her the first ever Vassar Track and Field athlete to meet an NCAA standard. Running in the combined women's college/Olympic Development 10,000m Championships, Spangler finished 21st in a field of 34 runners and was the seventh Division III runner to finish. For Spangler, it was her third school record in six days, following school records in the 1500m (4:52.23) and 5K (17:41.57) at the Liberty League Championships last Saturday at Vassar. This is Spangler's third Track Performer of the Week honor this season.
