ORLANDO, FL (March 8, 2010) - The undefeated Vassar College men’s tennis team rolled to its eight straight win of the season, defeating University of Rochester 9-0 on Monday afternoon at Sanlando Park.

The no. 22 ITA nationally ranked Brewers (8-0) will square off against the ITA Northeast’s no. 10 TCNJ on Tuesday, March, 9 at 11:00 a.m. The Yellowjackets, now 5-5, will face Wesleyan this evening March 8 at 6:30 p.m.

The Brewers established their rhythm in doubles, opening the match with a 3-0 lead. Junior Max Willner and freshman Andrew Guzick were dominant in their 8-2 win over Brian Bowman and Alex Magill.

“It’s great to see all the doubles teams working well together,” said head coach Ki Kroll. "We’re getting better every match.”

The Brewers built on the sharp doubles play by sweeping singles for the fourth straight match. At no. 2 singles, Guzick recorded the second singles victory to clinch the match for the Brewers. Facing a 4-1 deficit in the first set against Rochester’s Brian Schmear, Guzick surged to win 20 of 21 points to steal the set 6-4. Guzick closed the match with a 6-1 win in the second set.

“Andrew really turned it on and didn’t look back,” said Kroll.

Senior Jeremy Arthur fought off two set points in the first set to eventually defeat Alex Magill 7-6⁵, 6-2 at the no. 5 singles position.

“Jeremy is tough to beat now,” said Kroll. "He’s battling every match.”
